What's Your Superpower?
What is your thing? The thing that comes easy to you. The thing that reminds you of who you are. The thing that challenges you and makes you come to life. You got it? Okay that's our focus today. We will call it your superpower.
We live in a reality of limited resources. Our time is limited. Our energy is limited. Sadly, our money is limited. But your superpower, that you thing that lives in you is an unlimited resource. You just have to learn how to cultivate it.
Many of us don't believe this. We treat our gifts and dreams like Pizza Fridays, something to be enjoyed only every now and then. And then we spend a lot of life wondering "what if that ever became something?" But rarely let it try to be.
There is secret to letting your superpower become something more than a blip on your radar and it's this: do your superpower so much that you see it fail.
I know, I know this sounds crazy. But one of the biggest lies you will ever believe is that you have to protect your gifting like an artifact in a museum. If you believe it's only something to be admired, as opposed to something to be practiced, it will become obsolete. But the more you practice what you love, the more you exercise the natural skills you have, the more capacity you will grow for it. The more you do, the more you can do.
This means there will be mediocre versions of your superpower. This means you won't always feel super. But it also means you will experience new limits to the skills that make you come alive. Gifts are not to be protected, they are to be practiced.
When I started my new copywriting job, I became nervous about my ability to write for myself after hours of writing content on behalf of my clients. I thought if I spent all day writing, by the end of the day I would be tired of it. But the opposite happened. The more I practiced the easier it became to keep going. The more ideas flowed. The more I practiced, the more I could practice. And the same is for you.
I've never had a baby, but when babies breastfeed a mother's body can often adapt to feed them more or less based on what they need. Mother's bodies are so incredible that they will create more fuel if a baby is hungry enough. And much like a baby, if we feed our superpowers what they are hungry for, we might have more to give than we thought.
Don't undersell your capacity for your superpower. Grow it.
